So I want to do this meal for John and Laurie. I met them both in Italy and they have always held a special place in my heart. During the time I spent in Italy, John was always there for support, even when I went astray he was there. Now, eight years later we are still friends! I recently was over their house for a birthday party and John mentioned a meal we had all shared in Italy.
I forget the name of the place we all ate, but there were about thirty of us taking up the entire top room of this place. Candles everyone, music below us on the first floor. Glass windows that looked out over Napoli while we ate. The food was great and it was more an event than a meal. Of course I remembered it! He mentioned then the steak we had eaten. I remembered it because it had peppercorns on it and I thought they looked odd. (I wasn't the woman I am today then!!!)
I told him then I'd try and make it and see if I could do as well...the more I thought about it though, the more I wanted to recreate the entire night. Toss on some Italian music, mute the lights, light some candles. Invite them for dinner with me and imbue in the good food and memories we have together. Italy will always be a wonderful place to revisit in our minds...so while I endeavor to bring back Italy for my friends for Christmas, HELP!!!!
I think I am going to use the dishes I got in Italy. In Vietre there was this great pottery shop and I went a little out of control! I even have some authenic holiday decorations from Italy since I was there during the Christmas season!
So here is my menu...should I add in some things? Take some away??
Bruchetta
Caprese
Bread (OF COURSE)
Quattro Formaggio
Pepper Corn Steak in a Cream Sauce
Limoncello
Coffee
Tiramisu
